How to Show/Remove the Windows 11 Build Number on Desktop

Step 1. On the taskbar, click the Search button and then type regedit in the search box. Click the Registry Editor to launch it.

Alternatively, press the Windows + R keys simultaneously to open the Run command box. To open the Registry Editor, type regedit in the Run window and press Enter on the keyboard.

Step 2. From the left side pane, go to the following registry key in the Registry Editor window or you can copy and paste into the address bar to quickly get there.

Step 3. Look for the entry PaintDesktopVersion on the right side of the key and double-click it to modify.

  • To display the build version on the Windows 11 Desktop, replace the Value data from 0 to 1.
  • To remove, just change the Value data from 1 to 0

Finally, click OK.

Step 4. Typically, the modifications are immediate. A reboot is necessary if the build number isn’t shown on your Windows 11 desktop, but it’s not a big deal.
