The good thing is the method to turn it on lives in Android 6.0 Marshmallow that is quite easy in 15 seconds if you know exactly what you are doing.
How to Show Battery Percent on Status Bar on Android
Step 1: Enable SystemUI Tuner: Go to Settings from your Home Screen >> Tap on SystemUI Tuner.
Note: If you can't find the SystemUI Tuner option from the Settings menu, you need to enable the developer options on your Android 6.0 Marshmallow device. It's quite simple:
Tap on Settings >> About Phone. At the end of the options, you'll find the "build number" for your device software. Tap on this repeatedly and it will certainly open the developer options which will be included in the Settings menu.
Step 2: Then, switch on the "Show battery percentage" toggle.
That's it. The battery percentage will then be shown next to the battery icon on Status bar when not charging.
